Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, laid the foundation stone for the Paralympic Marksmanship Academy and stated that providing proper sports infrastructure for people with disabilities is a fundamental right.
In a statement published on his Facebook account, Talabani said: “Building strong sports infrastructure is a basic right for people with disabilities. We are proud that, in recent years, special attention has been given to the sports sector for this valued group in Sulaymaniyah, and important progress has been achieved.”
He added: “Today, we are pleased to lay the foundation stone for the Paralympic Marksmanship Academy. This academy is an important project for the development of Paralympic sports in Kurdistan. I was also delighted to watch the friendly football match between the Xor and Mang teams of Rozh Football Club, made up of players with Down syndrome. I was greatly impressed by the players’ performance and determination.”
Talabani further said: “I would like to thank everyone in the Paralympic Committee, Rozh Club, and all relevant organisations working with dedication to advance Paralympic sports in Kurdistan.”
