Iraq, Sudan Discuss Finalising Prisoner Exchange Agreement

Iraq's Justice Minister Khalid Shwani and Sudanese Ambassador to Iraq Abdul Rahim Sir al-Khatim.
Iraqi Justice Minister Dr Khalid Shwani met Sudanese Ambassador to Iraq Abdul Rahim Sir al-Khatim on Monday to discuss finalising the procedures for signing a prisoner exchange agreement between the two countries.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Justice, the meeting focused on strengthening judicial and legal cooperation between Iraq and Sudan, with particular emphasis on completing the legal procedures required to conclude the prisoner exchange agreement in accordance with the applicable legal frameworks and in a manner that serves the interests of both countries.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to expanding cooperation with friendly and brotherly nations through judicial and legal agreements and memoranda of understanding, thereby contributing to the development of bilateral relations and achieving the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.
For his part, Ambassador al-Khatim expressed appreciation for the Iraqi Ministry of Justice's efforts to enhance legal cooperation and reaffirmed Sudan's commitment to completing the remaining procedures needed to finalise the prisoner exchange agreement. He said the accord would further strengthen cooperation between Baghdad and Khartoum within the framework of the two countries' longstanding ties.
During the meeting, the ambassador also conveyed a message of congratulations from Sudan's Justice Minister, Abdullah Mohammed Darouf, to Dr Shwani on his reappointment as Iraq's Minister of Justice. The message wished him success in his duties and reaffirmed Sudan's commitment to strengthening judicial and legal relations between the two countries.
