The Chairman of Iraq's Communications and Media Commission has announced that Starlink satellite internet has been officially launched in the country, offering download speeds of between 25 and 220 megabits per second, with monthly subscriptions expected to cost more than $50.
In a statement published on X on Wednesday, Baleegh Abu Kulal, Chairman of the Communications and Media Commission, confirmed that the Starlink service had entered practical operation across Iraq following the completion of the necessary regulatory procedures.
The launch follows several months of preparations, and Iraqi users will now be able to subscribe to the satellite-based internet service in accordance with the applicable regulations.
Developed by SpaceX, the aerospace company founded by Elon Musk, Starlink provides high-speed broadband internet via a network of satellites in low Earth orbit. The service is designed to improve internet access, particularly in remote and underserved areas where conventional broadband infrastructure is limited or unavailable.
According to the Commission, Starlink is expected to deliver download speeds ranging from 25 Mbps to 220 Mbps, while monthly subscription fees are anticipated to exceed $50.
SpaceX has so far launched around 3,500 Starlink satellites into low Earth orbit and plans to expand the constellation to as many as 42,000 satellites, enabling wider global coverage and improved connectivity.
