PUKMEDIA, the official media platform of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), launched its Persian and Turkish language sections on Monday, marking a new step in expanding its regional and international media presence.
Speaking at the launch ceremony, Latif Nerwayi, Head of the PUK Media Board, described the addition of the two languages as an important development, noting that Persian and Turkish are spoken in two influential neighbouring and regional countries that share extensive borders with the Kurdistan Region and maintain broad commercial, economic, cultural and diplomatic relations.
Nerwayi said the new sections would enable the PUK to communicate its official messages, policies, positions and vision on various issues to the public, political figures, media professionals and diplomatic communities in both countries.
"Just as it is important for neighbouring countries to convey their messages and policies to the people of Kurdistan in Kurdish through different media platforms, it is equally important for us to communicate our messages in Persian and Turkish to our neighbours," he said.
He added that a Russian-language section would be launched in the near future, describing the continued development of PUKMEDIA as a reflection of President Mam Jalal's "firm and decisive policy" towards the media platform.
Nerwayi also expressed satisfaction that diplomatic missions operating in the Kurdistan Region regard PUKMEDIA as an important and reliable source for news and information.
PUKMEDIA began its operations on 22 January 2003 following a decision by the PUK Media Bureau. Initially launched in Kurdish and Arabic, the platform has gradually expanded its language services over the years and continues to serve as the official media outlet of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.
