Iraqi Finance Minister Faleh Sari has formally requested to appear before the next parliamentary session to present the country's current financial and economic situation and outline the key challenges facing public finances amid ongoing regional developments.
The minister said the request reflects the Ministry of Finance’s commitment to providing members of parliament with a clear and accurate assessment of the country’s financial and economic conditions. He also intends to explain the measures being taken to ensure the government meets its core financial obligations while continuing to implement financial and administrative reform programmes.
According to the ministry, Iraq is currently facing a shortage of cash flow needed to pay the salaries of state employees. The shortfall has been attributed to a decline in oil exports from Basra’s ports, following renewed tensions in the Strait of Hormuz caused by the escalation in the confrontation between the United States and Iran.
