The Central Bank of Iraq has denied reports and statements circulating about the printing of new Iraqi banknotes with zeros removed, stressing that the claims are not based on any official source.
In a statement issued by its Media Office and reviewed by PUKMEDIA, the bank said that any future project involving the restructuring of currency denominations or the removal of zeros, should an official decision be taken, would have to go through a number of legal, regulatory and technical stages.
The bank added that any such decision would be announced through its official channels and the media.
It further explained that any future currency replacement process would include an appropriate transition period, allowing citizens, banks and institutions to exchange their existing currency safely and in an orderly manner, while ensuring the full protection of financial rights and obligations.
The Central Bank of Iraq urged citizens and media outlets to rely solely on its official statements and channels for information concerning monetary policy. It also warned against sharing unverified news, figures or information, noting that such reports could cause confusion or negatively affect citizens’ financial interests.
