North Korean leader Kim Jong Un meets scientists, researchers and officials from key national defence research institutions.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has overhauled the country’s senior military leadership, appointing Kim Song-gi as defence minister and reinstating veteran strategist Pak Jong-chon as vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission, state media KCNA reported on Sunday.

Kim Song-gi, who previously headed the military’s political bureau, replaces No Kwang-chol, who has been reassigned to a senior position within the powerful Munitions Industry Department.

The high-level reshuffle comes as Kim Jong Un honours defence scientists for their contributions to the development of the country’s military capabilities, amid Pyongyang’s growing ties with Moscow during Russia’s war in Ukraine.
