Iraqi President Nizar Amedi visited the 27th Baghdad International Book Fair.
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi visited the 27th Baghdad International Book Fair on Friday, touring its pavilions and reviewing recent publications from Iraqi, Arab and international publishing houses.
Accompanied by Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Minister Sarwa Abdulwahid, President Amedi viewed a wide selection of books and new publications spanning intellectual and knowledge fields.
Speaking with publishers and exhibitors, the president said the Baghdad International Book Fair extends the capital’s cultural and civilizational legacy and reflects its standing as a city of knowledge, culture and thought.
“Baghdad deserves to reclaim its place as a beacon of knowledge and learning, and the book is present in its new civilizational project,” President Amedi said.
He added that “Iraq’s renaissance begins with building its people, and the book is one of the tools in this process,” highlighting the role of books in building society and advancing knowledge.
Amedi said book fairs serve as important forums for intellectual exchange among nations and peoples, reflecting their level of progress and development while contributing to the promotion of freedom of opinion and expression.
The president praised the efforts to make the cultural event a success, saying they help “restore the book to its role in building society and shaping the future.”
