President Amedi Highlights Importance of Developing Ties with United States

President Amedi Meets New US Chargé d’Affaires in Baghdad.

His Excellency President Nizar Amedi received Steven Fagin, the new Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Iraq, in Baghdad on Tuesday, 8 September 2026.

The meeting focused on bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States and ways to further strengthen cooperation, alongside regional developments and other issues of mutual interest.

President Amedi stressed the importance of continuing efforts to enhance cooperation between the two countries in the political, economic and development sectors, in a manner that supports Iraq’s security and stability. He also wished Fagin success in his new role.

For his part, Fagin reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to continued cooperation with Iraq and to strengthening bilateral relations in ways that serve the interests of both countries. He also highlighted the importance of the strategic partnership between Iraq and the United States across various fields.
