Qubad Talabani Calls for Investigation into Kurdish Student’s Death in China

Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, has called on the Chinese Consul General in the Region to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death of a student from Halabja in China and facilitate the prompt repatriation of his body to Kurdistan.

During a meeting on Wednesday evening (September 9, 2026), the Deputy Prime Minister discussed the student’s mysterious death in China’s Shandong Province. He urged the Chinese government to determine and disclose the cause of death and expedite the procedures for returning the student’s body to the Kurdistan Region.

The Chinese Consul General, for his part, said that Chinese police were investigating the circumstances of the incident and pledged to provide the necessary assistance to facilitate the repatriation of the Kurdish student’s body to the Kurdistan Region.
