Kurdistan Region Deputy Prime Minister Qubad Talabani met on Thursday, September 10, 2026, with Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, the UK Ministry of Defence’s Senior Military Adviser for the Middle East and North Africa, to discuss the security situation in Iraq and the wider region.

The meeting, attended by Peshmerga Minister Shorsh Ismail, focused on the latest security developments across the region.

Talabani stressed that, since the outbreak of the conflict between the United States and Iran, the Kurdistan Region has maintained a clear and consistent position, working to ensure that neither Iraq nor the Kurdistan Region becomes drawn into wars and crises. Instead, he said, the Region has sought to play a stabilising role by helping de-escalate tensions and conflicts and promote peace across the region.

The Deputy Prime Minister noted that the region needs no more wars, stressing that resolving disputes through dialogue and negotiations is in the collective interest of all countries in the region.

The meeting also addressed the importance of strengthening coordination and cooperation among security forces in the Kurdistan Region and Iraq, as well as with the Global Coalition, to safeguard regional security and stability, combat terrorism, and eliminate terrorist sleeper cells.

Talabani also expressed his appreciation for the role of British forces in the region, highlighting their significant contribution to strengthening coordination and supporting security forces in both the Kurdistan Region and Iraq.
