Masoud Pezeshkian: We Thank Bafel Jalal Talabani’s Role in Easing Tensions

Masoud Pezeshkian and Bafel Jalal Talabani meet in Tehran.

Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), met with Masoud Pezeshkian, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, in Tehran.

The meeting, attended by a high-level PUK delegation, focused on the longstanding relations between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as the latest political and security developments in the region.

Bafel Jalal Talabani stressed the importance of further strengthening the foundations of friendship between the two sides, based on shared interests and the principles of good neighbourliness. He said, “Protecting and enhancing regional stability serves the interests of all; we will exert every effort to de-escalate the situation, as instability harms the security and lives of citizens.”

For his part, Masoud Pezeshkian thanked Bafel Jalal Talabani for his positive and active role in easing tensions, saying, “We share common borders, and it is important for us to develop our relations with you based on good neighbourliness and mutual respect.”
