Qubad Talabani Urges Investors to Expand Beyond Kurdistan Region Markets

On the sidelines of the Slemani Economic Summit 2026, Qubad Talabani, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met today, Thursday, 17 September 2026, with a group of investors and traders from Sulaymaniyah Governorate.

Following discussions and hearing the views of the attendees, Qubad Talabani praised the role investors and traders have played in recent years, noting that, alongside government initiatives, their efforts have been instrumental in revitalising and developing the economies of both the Kurdistan Region and Sulaymaniyah Governorate. He pledged to provide full support and make use of all available resources to address the challenges and obstacles they face.

The Deputy Prime Minister said the aim is to achieve balanced growth across all sectors. He stressed that, alongside economic development, the country must also make progress in the cultural, scientific and intellectual fields, calling on investors to explore opportunities in these areas as well.

On the banking system in the Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani said efforts had been made, with plans also underway, to establish an advanced banking system that can earn the public’s trust.

Talabani also stressed that investors and traders should not limit their focus to the markets of Sulaymaniyah Governorate and other parts of the Kurdistan Region, but should also look towards the markets of central and southern Iraq.
