The Iraqi Ministry of Transport has announced the reopening of air routes between Iraq and Kuwait, following their recent suspension amid regional tensions and security developments.

In a statement received by PUKMEDIA, the Ministry said the routes between the Republic of Iraq and the State of Kuwait, described as a sister nation, had been suspended due to the prevailing security situation and regional tensions.

The Ministry stated that technical efforts had resulted in operational arrangements being established under the supervision of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), in cooperation with Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the statement, the arrangements took effect on 15 October 2026 at 11:00 (UTC), following the completion of official procedures and confirmation by the relevant authorities.

The Ministry explained that air traffic would be managed through designated routes and flight levels to ensure effective operational coordination, safe separation between aircraft, and compliance with the highest standards of aviation safety and security within Iraqi airspace.

It added that the arrangements would be introduced gradually, with continuous monitoring and evaluation during the initial phase. This would allow any technical or operational issues to be identified and addressed in coordination with the relevant parties, helping to ensure the stability and effectiveness of the new procedures.
