The US Mission to Saudi Arabia has warned American citizens of potential attacks on airports, airspace closures and flight disruptions following recent missile and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attacks on airports in the Kingdom.

In a security alert issued on 15 October 2026, the mission urged US citizens to follow national emergency alerts issued by Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence through mobile phone broadcasts.

Saudi Arabia’s General Authority of Civil Aviation has extended the suspension of operations at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh until 17 October. King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and King Fahd International Airport in Dammam remain operational, although delays and cancellations have been reported.

The mission advised travellers to exercise extreme caution when using airports in Saudi Arabia and to check flight status directly with airlines and airports before travelling.

It also suggested considering alternative transport options, including private cars, trains and buses. Travellers were advised to confirm availability and schedules with transport providers.

The alert also highlighted Saudi Arabia’s restrictions on filming or sharing information related to missile and drone interceptions and their impact sites.

The mission reminded US citizens that visitors and residents are subject to Saudi Arabia’s local laws and regulations.

The US Embassy’s warning followed recent Houthi attacks on Riyadh airport that reportedly killed 17 people and injured 333 others, most of them foreign nationals.
