The Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that all preparations have been completed for Baghdad to host the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), scheduled for 17–18 October, with the participation of 55 member and observer states.

Ambassador Hassanein Kamel, spokesperson for the session, said in a statement received by PUKMEDIA that the government committee had finalised all arrangements to host the event. A comprehensive plan has been put in place to ensure the smooth reception of delegations, their safe transport to accommodation and their hospitality in accordance with established protocol standards.

Kamel said the meetings would be held under the theme “Dialogue and Solidarity: Two Pillars for Promoting Peace and Sustainable Development”, amid regional and international challenges requiring greater consultation and stronger joint action among member states.

In addition to representatives of member and observer states, the session is expected to welcome several guests, including UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed, as well as representatives from around 40 non-governmental organisations.

The spokesperson added that arrangements included organising tours for delegations to religious and historical landmarks, including Al-Kadhimiya and Al-Adhamiya, as well as commercial centres and other locations across Baghdad, to showcase the capital’s historical and cultural heritage.

Coordination is also under way between the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the OIC General Secretariat to finalise the meeting programme and arrangements for discussing the agenda.

Regarding media coverage, Kamel said a media centre had been established at the Qalb al-Alam (Heart of the World) Hotel to support local, Arab and international media outlets, coordinate their coverage and provide news and information about the meetings and related events.

He stressed that Iraq hoped the session would produce realistic and actionable outcomes that strengthen the OIC’s effectiveness, improve coordination among member states and translate shared principles into practical programmes and initiatives serving their peoples.

Kamel noted that hosting the session offered Iraq an opportunity to renew its engagement with the Islamic world, strengthen relations with member states and highlight Baghdad’s role in promoting dialogue, bridging differences and supporting initiatives to ease tensions and consolidate regional and international stability.

He reaffirmed Iraq’s commitment to working with member states and the OIC General Secretariat in a spirit of responsibility, partnership and solidarity to ensure the success of the session and advance the aspirations of the peoples of the Islamic world for security, peace, stability, development and prosperity.
