Iraqi President Nizar Amedi received Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and his accompanying delegation at Baghdad Palace, with talks focusing on bilateral relations and ways to broaden cooperation across various fields in line with the shared interests of Iraq and Türkiye and their peoples.
According to a statement by the Iraqi Presidency, the talks also turned to the region’s evolving political and security landscape, with President Amedi emphasising the need for sustained dialogue, closer coordination and a shared commitment to preserving peace and stability amid mounting regional challenges.
Against this backdrop, the President underscored the significance of Baghdad hosting the 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), describing it as an important platform for reinforcing collective action among member states. He noted that the pace of regional change and the increasingly interconnected nature of the challenges facing the region lend the session particular weight, offering an opportunity to assess emerging developments, align efforts and pursue common approaches that protect the interests of regional countries and their peoples while preventing further escalation and widening instability.
President Amedi also reaffirmed Iraq’s support for the ongoing peace process in Türkiye, emphasizing the need to sustain efforts to consolidate peace and stability and address outstanding issues through dialogue and mutual understanding, thereby strengthening security across the region.
For his part, Fidan expressed Türkiye’s commitment to further expanding its relations with Iraq, underscoring the importance of enhancing the OIC’s role in addressing the challenges facing its member states and fostering greater solidarity and integration among them.
