Iraq’s new Defence Minister, Nayef Mukayef al-Shammari, has ordered the cancellation of disciplinary actions against Ministry of Defence personnel, while directing that all official statements concerning the ministry be issued exclusively by its authorised spokesperson.

According to two documents issued by the minister’s office and obtained by PUKMEDIA, the first directive orders the cancellation of the specified disciplinary actions against officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees, in recognition of their efforts and sacrifices in carrying out their national duties.

In a separate directive, al-Shammari prohibited ministry personnel from appearing in the media, making statements about the ministry or publishing related content on social media without prior approval from the relevant authorised authorities.

The directive states that all official communications must come through the Ministry of Defence spokesperson and warns that legal action will be taken against those who violate the instructions.

The relevant authorities have been instructed to circulate the directives across all ministry units and formations to ensure compliance.

The measures aim to regulate the ministry’s internal affairs and reinforce adherence to established administrative and media procedures.
