Two officers were killed when a Saudi National Guard reconnaissance helicopter crashed.

A reconnaissance AH-6i helicopter crashed in Saudi Arabia’s Najran region due to a technical malfunction, killing both crew members, Saudi-led coalition spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said on Sunday.

The helicopter came down in an area under the jurisdiction of Saudi Arabia’s National Guard Ministry, according to a statement from al-Maliki.

Najran, in southwestern Saudi Arabia, has faced attacks by Yemen’s Houthis in recent weeks as fighting between the coalition and the Houthi group has intensified.

On Saturday, Houthi military spokesman Yahya Saree claimed in a post on X that the group had shot down a Saudi Apache helicopter near Najran while it was carrying out what he described as hostile operations targeting Houthi positions along the border.
