Jordan’s King Abdullah II on Monday extended an official invitation to Iraqi President Nizar Amedi to visit Jordan, as the two leaders called for closer coordination to ease regional tensions and prevent conflicts from spreading.

During a telephone call, the two sides discussed strengthening bilateral ties and addressing regional challenges through dialogue and diplomacy, according to a statement by the Iraqi Presidency.

The statement said that President Amedi highlighted the historic bonds between Iraq and Jordan and called for expanded trade, closer energy cooperation and increased investment between the two countries to support economic development.

Addressing developments in the West Bank and Gaza, the leaders urged effective international action to halt repeated attacks and violations, protect Palestinians and safeguard civilian lives. They reaffirmed their support for the Palestinian people’s legitimate rights.

Both leaders stressed the need to intensify coordination to contain tensions and reduce escalation. They emphasised dialogue and mutual understanding as the means to resolve crises and disputes and preserve regional security and stability.

King Abdullah reaffirmed Jordan’s support for Iraq’s security, stability and sovereignty, and its commitment to strengthening cooperation across a range of sectors.
