Kurdistan Parliament Fails to Elect New Presidency

The Kurdistan Parliament failed to hold its session on Wednesday, which was scheduled to elect a new Presidency. The oldest member of parliament resigned from his position in protest of the failure to advance the political process.

Local media reported that the session could not take place due to the absence of a legal quorum, with only 26 members present out of the 100 required.

Mohammed Sulaiman, the oldest member of parliament, announced his resignation at a press conference inside the parliament building, stating, "As you can see, there is no preparation to elect the Presidency, the quorum was not met, and I am not prepared to remain in this position."

The Kurdistan Regional Parliament held its first session of the new legislative term in early December, attended by political and diplomatic officials.

The parliament opened nominations for the Presidency, but the process was left unresolved due to the violation of the legal quorum, with several members withdrawing.
