A lawmaker from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) has called on the Kurdistan Region’s Minister of Labour and Social Affairs to establish a dedicated job market for people with disabilities in Sulaymaniyah, aimed at empowering them to become entrepreneurs and improve their livelihoods.
Rawaz Ahmad Shah, a PUK Lawmaker in the Kurdistan Parliament, urged the Minister to repurpose one of Sulaymaniyah’s neglected buildings into a commercial hub for people with disabilities.
“I propose we transform the building located behind the Central District office and near Baridaka — originally constructed to house the Social Security Directorate but left unused for over 15 years — into a market space that provides income-generating opportunities for people with disabilities and their families,” Shah stated.
He emphasised that such an initiative could offer a sustainable source of livelihood for at least 200 families, describing it as a vital public service that requires nothing more than the Minister’s approval.
