Senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan are scheduled to meet Iranian officials in Tehran on Monday to discuss regional security and coordination, according to two sources familiar with the matter who spoke to Reuters.

The sources, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Saudi Arabia would be represented by Defence Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, while Pakistan would be represented by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir. The head of Türkiye’s intelligence agency, Ibrahim Kalin, is also expected to attend.

Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, told state television that Prince Khalid, Munir and Kalin would visit Tehran for consultations with the council on regional security.

The planned talks would mark the first high-level contact between Iran and all three members of the bloc since Saudi Arabia was drawn deeper into the wider regional conflict.

Munir visited Tehran last week, where he met Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and other senior officials. Iranian media reported that officials told him during the visit that Tehran would not hold talks with Washington until its demands were met.

Pakistan has played a key intermediary role between the United States and Iran, while Qatar has also been involved in diplomatic efforts to ease regional tensions.

Earlier this month, ministers from the three countries held an emergency meeting in Riyadh, where they agreed to ensure the rapid deployment of military forces and capabilities to Saudi Arabia.

In August, Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia signed the Makkah Agreement for Joint Defence. Under the pact, an armed attack against one member is considered an attack against all.

According to the agreement’s text, reviewed by Reuters, its first article states that the parties shall use all necessary means to address threats to the territorial integrity, sovereignty or internationally recognised borders of any member.

Türkiye’s parliament began the ratification process last week, which remains ongoing, while Pakistan approved the agreement last week.
