The US President Donald Trump.
US President Donald Trump has said that Iran targeted an American Apache attack helicopter near the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the United States is compelled to respond to the incident.
In a post published on Truth Social, Trump stated that he had been informed by the US military that an AH-64 Apache helicopter came under attack by Iranian forces during operations near the strategic waterway overnight.
The President said the two pilots aboard the aircraft were rescued safely and were unharmed.
The remarks came after reports emerged that a US Army Apache helicopter had gone down near the Strait of Hormuz. Earlier on Tuesday, The New York Times reported that the aircraft had crashed in the area, though the cause of the incident was initially unclear.
According to the report, investigators were examining whether the helicopter was brought down by hostile fire or whether it suffered a technical malfunction or operational failure.
Trump later asserted that Iran was responsible for the incident and said the United States would respond. However, US military officials have not publicly released detailed findings regarding the cause of the helicopter’s loss.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most strategically important shipping routes, carrying a significant portion of global oil exports. Any escalation in tensions in the area is closely watched by the international community due to its potential impact on regional security and global energy markets.
