Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the PUK.
At a critical political juncture, amid mounting domestic challenges and increasing public demands for reform, improved services, and greater accountability, Bafel Jalal Talabani, President of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), is spearheading a broad political initiative aimed at fostering national consensus and paving the way for the formation of a responsible government capable of meeting the aspirations of citizens.
The meetings held by President Bafel with a range of political parties and forces across the Kurdistan Region form part of a wider vision to overcome political divisions, strengthen dialogue, and unite efforts to address longstanding challenges. The initiative seeks to move beyond political exclusivity and unilateral decision-making, while reinforcing democratic institutions, safeguarding judicial independence, enhancing the role of parliament, protecting public resources, and combating corruption.
In this context, President Bafel’s engagements with political, religious, and national figures in Sulaymaniyah reflect the PUK’s commitment to achieving the broadest possible political understanding. Such consensus is viewed as essential to establishing a service-oriented government founded on a clear reform agenda, restoring public confidence in institutions, and placing the interests of Kurdistan above partisan considerations.
These meetings, therefore, represent more than routine political consultations. They are part of a wider Kurdish effort to open a new chapter in governance based on partnership, balance, and reform, with good governance, public service, and social justice at the forefront.
